Morley Hayes

This weekend Dawn and I had a trip to the Morley Hayes hotel, just north of Derby, where her friend Lauren was getting married to Tony.

We were invited to the evening disco but we made a weekend trip of it by travelling up yesterday morning. It is a while since we had played gold together but the hotel has two gold-courses - an 18-hole one and a 9:hole one. It also had a driving range.

So we had a workout at the driving range before lunch and then 9 holes in the afternoon. Then this morning we had another 9 holes before we came home. Needless to say our golf being so rusty was rubbish, but I did at least get a birdie 2 on the 6th hole yesterday. Maybe we'll take up the game again.

Her are a few photos.

Our room was rather nice and we had a table and chairs outside. It had biggest bed I can remember ever sleeping in.

The complex had several bars, restaurants and function rooms.

The 18-hole course.

The driving range

The 9-hole course is called The Tower course as it has a view of this old water tower.

Here is Dawn on the course selecting a club. Nice views.

I was missing the Beer Festival at home, but at lunchtime yesterday I tried a local beer Shiny Brewery's Scrabble Rouser

Very tasty.

We didn't have the best of weather but managed to stay fairly dry while golfing. But as the rain got heavier after our golf today we just came home rather than explore further. But I think we will be back to explore Derbyshire further some time/
