Bridge of Allan Highland Games 2025

Last year (see here) we all visited the Bridge of Allan Highland Games and enjoyed it so much we said we must go again this year... and here we are!

The progamme included "The Heavyweights", both Women's and Men's, Pipe Bands, Highland Dancing, Cycling, Athletics and Wrestling, Here are just a few photos. As you can see we had perfect weather.

Entering the ground. They had lots of stalls with food etc.

We passed bands practising as we went to find some seats together.

We couldn't find 4 together in the main stand...

...so ended up where we were last year, with a good view of the Heavyweight competitions. The ladies were on first.

Putting the shot.

Over the other side of the arena was the pipe band ring. The various competitions continued all day.

In the background you can see the Wallace monument.

There were some fairground rides the other side of the grounds.

We couldn't see much of the dancing from where we were. It too carried on all day.

Throwing the hammer.

Behind the town is the start of the Ochil Hills.

The judges of the Heavyweight competition.

Tossing the caber. It has to be pushed into the vertical first...

...then picked up...

and then thrown.

The objective is to get it to tumble end over end and land straight.

The final event is throwing the weight over the bar. Easy-peasy for some to start with, but then the bar gets raised.

Meanwhile the cycling races were starting.

The winner of the final event went on to attempt the Scottish record...

...but just missed.

The fairground rides were popular.

The ladies posing after the competition.

You could have a go at curling here.

There was plenty of choice of fast food.

The sprint races were on a 90m track down the centre of the arena. This was one of the heats.

The dancing continued.

As did the piping.

The wrestling was over the far side of the arean from us.

Dumyat is the start of the Ochil Hills which run east from here towards Dollar.

One of the two bars.

The Royal Army of Oman band's uniform was very smart.

The men's Heavyweights were in action now.

As were the sprint race finals.

Throwing the hammer.

The races were very close.

Time for some pizza to share.

The drum major competition was fun to watch.

The dancersrent costumes for different events. They are dressed here fro the Irish jig.

The start of on races.

The sailors hornpipe was danced in naval uniform.

We remembered Sam Bates from last year, he was given huge starts on handicap but always came last in his races.

The final men's event.

My favourite cycling race was the "De'il Tak The Hindmost", an elimination race.

The wrestlers posing for a group photo.

The Omani's led the final parade.

The massed bands ready to salute the chieftain.

My video files are too big to upload here, but here is my video of the first part of the march past on Youtube.

A great day out again! Thank-you Kirsty and David for inviting us to come.
