This weekend we had another great Sloggers & Betters event in York.
As usual there was a Friday night quiz and an all-day session yesterday both in the Marcia Inn in Bishopsthorpe, followed by a curry at Woodthorpe Spice.Only the one picture this year (see the top of this post)...
Hot crossword topic of the year is the imminent demise of the Independent Cryptic Crossword, with the last one due to be published on 31st October. Read about it here with further comments here.
As this weekend may have been the last hurrah for the crossword and setters, we had a group photograph of all who were there along with editor Mike Hutchinson. The entertainment they have provided will be sorely missed.
In all, more than 70 people attended the event. Maybe we will need an even bigger venue next year. Thanks to John Henderson for organising it all, Angus and Tav (Gustav) for the quiz, the setters for the puzzles and the staff at the Marcia for looking after us so well.
