Great .. a good Saturday gentle workout over lunch.
ReplyDeleteThank you, my difficulty is always keeping it at the 'gentle' end of the spectrum.
ReplyDeleteAll done and much enjoyed in 7 minutes, one of my faster for the Specials, and an excellent counterpart to Noel's stiff test in the Saturday QC! A minor surprise that Anti was clued as a homonym for Aunty - not where I come from, m'lud, not even close - but otherwise no hold-ups and no complaints. COD & LOI Geneva: I didn't see what was going on here at all, and needed the checkers to enter the answer, upon which the reference to Wilder suddenly became clear.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Sawbill for a fun puzzle.
Cedric
Thanks Cedric and 7 minutes is excellent.
ReplyDeletePROPER, GENEVA, NIXON, ASPECT, and GREENHOUSE were my favourites. Thanks,SAWBILL, lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you. GENEVA seems to be popular.
DeleteGood fun and nice and easy. Zoomed through, only slightly held up by LOsI NIXON and OXTAIL.
ReplyDeleteYes, ANTI and Auntie don’t sound the same to me! Liked GENEVA, MERINO, APPEAL, among others. Thanks vm, Sawbill and John, for an encouraging QC.
Countrywoman
Thank you, perhaps I will make the next one a little harder? But not too hard
DeleteWell, I think this one would encourage newcomers who must have had a hard time of late. CW
DeleteVery enjoyable for a Sunday afternoon - nice and straightforward which makes a change from some of the midweek offerings lately. Had a bit of brain stall for 13dn “Proper” where I initially struggled to see where the “pro” element was coming from. But, other than that, they all slotted in nice and quickly. Clue of the day must for 21ac “Geneva” and the various roles of the eccentric Mr Wilder that were conjoured up.
ReplyDeleteJamesEd46
Glad that you enjoyed it. GENEVA seems to have been a success.
DeleteVery enjoyable after Noel's impenetrable puzzle yesterday. Under 10 minutes. Geneva raised a smile but COD to Oxtail for the smooth surface.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sawbill and John. Rubeculaw
10 minutes sounds just right. I, personally, liked OXTAIL and ELVIS
DeleteThanks Sawbill. Very enjoyable 6:48 solve. Liked MERINO, OXTAIL and GENEVA. I’m not sure ANTI is a homophone of Aunty, but I accept that it could be in some accents.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I agree that ANTI/AUNTY depends on one’s accent. Another vote for GENEVA, I see.
DeleteToo late to enter my comments last night but this was a corker. The Three Bears would say it would have suited Goldilocks. Lots of witty/humorous clues make it hard to give a COD, but would include12a 14a 2d 11d 13d. Really enjoyable to do.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Andrew. Now to set the next one.
