COLOURFAST, AMNESTY, OBOE, and OFFSHORE were my favourites-thanks, SAWBILL and John!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was worried that COLOURFAST might be a bit on the hard side.
DeleteIt was- but all the more satisfying once cracked!
DeleteVery good, Sawbill. Entertained me in between different bits of cooking. OBOE was a particular highlight but COLOURFAST was only just behind. Held up at the end by LATER - when I saw it the parsing was a lot easier than finding a city and lopping an M off. Took a while to get OHIO and needed that to let go for the HEROSTAT.
ReplyDeleteThat was me, Mendesest
ReplyDeleteThanks, OBOE was tongue in cheek but I couldn't resist
DeleteA fine puzzle - top half went in smoothly (I had almost forgotten about the execrable Osama bin L, and I'm not sure I needed to be reminded of him!) but bottom half required a bit more work before I came home in just under 10 minutes. Spent some time trying to find a 6 letter city to delete an M from in 16D, and I'm still not entirely convinced by the wordplay even after getting the answer, as the natural reading is that it is the city that is missing something. Construing it as "add TER to the city" is devious!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sawbill for an enjoyable puzzle, bang on the mark for a Sunday Special.
Cedric
Thanks Cedric. You taking 10 minutes is my benchmark.
DeleteThanks, Sawbill, for good workout. Cuttlefish didn’t seem a good answer to 15a but luckily COLOURFAST then sprang to mind. Took a minute or two to parse LATER 16d. Not to be confused with SOONER OR LATER. LOI COUNTER.
ReplyDeleteOSAMA was an early solve which helped the top half. Liked FLORA, SHAMROCK, CRY OFF, GAIN.
Thanks again to both, Countrywoman.
Thank you. I had recently read a Carl Hiaasen novel set in Florida so that may have influenced me on FLORA
