Starling Murmuration at Lackford Lakes

It was a lovely afternoon for it so today we took a short trip to Lackford Lakes to see if we could see the murmuration of starlings that has been said to be so good this year.

We parked at the church and walked from there. The platform by the reed bads was already busy as we did a short walk around the site first. There was lots of birdsong to hear. We stopped by the visitor centre with a view of the reed beds to watch for the show. Here are a few photos and 3 of my video clips.

By the visitor centre there was a flock of linnets up in the top of the trees that kept flying off and coming back again.

This was the view from our vantage point.

The starlings started massing and flying around as dusk fell.

The flew around for quite a while coming down to roost only at about 5:15pm.

Wow. That was fantastic. Go and see them while you can.
