On our way to Oxford today we took a slight detour to visit Stowe Gardens just outside the the town of Buckingham. Read all about the history here and here.
The approach to the gardens is quite spectacular with a long straight avenue leading to the Corinthian Arch. Here are just a few of my photos.
The map of the estate...
Looking back along the drive by which we had approached the gardens...
...which lead to the Corinthian Arch.
We followed the Royal Route (extended version) with an extra detour to visit the Palladian Bridge and Chinese House.
The main building is now
Stowe School.
We loved the Gothic Temple.
There are temples and statues everywhere.
We found some early anemones.
The Palladian Bridge was another favourite.
The Chinese House is still under wraps to protect it from the winter weather.
We had lunch at the café. Oh look - the cherry blossom is out.
Onwards to Oxford. A great stop along our way!
