U3A Bury St Edmunds Cryptic Crosswords Group

It is coming up to two years since I started the U3A Bury St Edmunds Cryptic Crosswords Group.

We meet on a manthly basis, on the last Monday of the month for a couple of hours and our usual agenda includes

• An introductory level crossword.
• Topic of the Month - a tutorial session on an aspect of cryptic crosswords generally with some practice clues.
• Crossword of the Month - crosswords we tackle individually,  in pairs or collectively.
• Clues of the month - a selection of recent cryptic crossword clues.
• Words of the month - parctice at coming up with clues for 3 words.
• An additional crossword - if time allows.

Each month an update of what we have covered is distributed to members of the group with an agenda of the next meeting.

I have now compiled an index of all the monthly updates, available here. Using this, starting from the first meeting, you can follow the course of tutorial maerial on cryptic crosswords, practise the different types of clue we explored and try the crosswords we have tackled (answers and explanations of the clues are provided).

We currently have capacity to include a few more members and we will recycle through our tutorial material again starting in May this year. If you a member of the local U3A do join if you like, or just enjoy using the material we have collected, which is available to all.
