Bury St. Edmunds Festival - Songbook Sunday Georgia Mancio

This was my second concert in the Bury St. Edmunds Festival.

It was that man Chris Ingham on piano again.

The setting, in the Athenaeum, was lovely and when I got there, there were plenty of people who had bought the VIP tickets tucking into a cooked breakfast. Fortunately, the clatter of cutlery and crockery stopped once the performance started.

Georgia gave us a great selection of songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim, singing in a  mixture of Portuguese and English. Also known as Tom Jobim, the composer was responsible for the internationalisation of the Bossa Nova style of music which originated 60 years ago and became popularised in the 1960s. Here they are in action...

The slow ballads were particularly expressive and. as well as singing, Georgia also showed us she could whistle a tune too. We were also treated to fine piano playing from Chris, Bass from Owen and sensitive drumming from Dave. I did enjoy Dave's chance to show off with the drums in Favela and the final piece, and arrangement of the famous Girl from Ipanema.

With sunlight streaming in, it felt like the wrong time and setting for the music, which made me think of late night Jazz downstairs when I lived in Bedford.

A lovely concert. Thank-you Georgia and the band.
