Cambridge Beer Festival

Wednesday and Thursday were working days as usual this week.. which meant I was in Cambridge... and could go to the Cambridge Beer Festival after work! It claims to be th oldest CAMRA Beer Festival in the country and is now in its 46th year. With 200+ Real Ales, 8)+ Ciders & Perries, a Foreign Bar, Mead and Wine & Cheese there was plenty to choose from.

And, boy, was it busy, particularly tonight.Fortunately the weather was beautiful, unlike last year when they had to restrict entrrance during the rain as there were too many people sheltering in the marquee. Here are a couple of photos from Wednesday when it wasn't so busy(!).

And as for the beers? Well champion for novelty value was this...

Stonehenge's Sign of Spring 4.6% Translucent green premium ale, smooth and rich in both malt and hop aroma, with a delightfully fruity and pleasantly bitter finish.

It tasted just like a normal ale!

Of those I tried, I would single out..
Bishop Nick's Martyr 5.0% Our American-style IPA is fittingly strong and brash, unleashing full-on flavour. Washington native hops Willamette and Simcoe take centre stage to deliver a symphony of spicy floral bitterness, supported by a sweet malty backbone.
Fat Cat's Oatmeal Porter 4.9% A dark chocolate porter, brewed with creamy malted oats and a blend of roasted malt barley.
Lord Conrad's A-Bomb 4.0% American pale ale with bitter grapefruit. I just had to have that after visiting Orford Ness earlier this week.
Panther's Ginger Panther 3.7% Refreshingly clean ginger wheat beer with a distinct firey kick. A favourite of mine from the East Anglian Beer Festival earlier this month too.

But my choice of Beer of the Festival goes to..

Wylam's Hickey the Rake 4.2% A Limonata Pale… an ultra pale which provides almost toxic levels of citrus zing. A nuclear sherbet dip-dab of lemon, lime and tropical pineapple.

Wow! What a flavour-packed glass!

There's still time for you to try for yourself - the festival ends on Saturday.

P.S. I f you saw this on the RSS feed, apologies for the typos.. now (hopefully all) corrected. I think I need an editor! Any volunteers? Lol.
