Lunch with Sawbill

My fellow Weekend Quick Cryptic compiler, Sawbill lives near Malmesbury which is not far from sister Kirsty and brother-in-law David who we were staying with for a few days. As we were in the area it was a rare chance for us to meet so we arranged to have lunch together on Thursday at The Gumstool Inn, about halfway between where he lives and Kirsty and David's.

It was also handy for Newark Park which we visited before lunch. Here we are with our starters.

The others to his left going round the table are my wife Dawn, Kirsty, her husband David and my other sister Sue. He hadn't quite bargained for such a crowd when we arranged to meet!

It was an opportunity to finally present him with a couple of bottles of wine as his preferred substitute for the beer Olivia generously provided us for the crossword we did for her sister last year. Sawbill provided several of the clues... which led him to be invited to join the Weekend Quick Cryptic team.

We had a lovely couple of hours chatting over some excellent food and he kindly donated a copy of his book (Phil has got my original copy), which I'm sure David will enjoy too.

What a lovely meet-up. A bientot David (for that is his real name).
