This afternoon we had our first visit to Bradfield Woods of the year.
Maybe we should have worn wellies, but we managed to dodge the muddy bits OK. Lots of lovely wood anemones and the bluebells are starting to open, but we were surprised not to find any ramsons (wild garlic) in flower yet.
Here area few photos.
It was a lovely afternoon for it and the leaves are still to come out on the trees so it wasn't too shady.
The carpet of wood anemones is lovely to see.
As you can see, it was a bit muddy in places.
We saw quite a few oxlips. This was the biggest clump we found - in the Butterfly Glade.
The path is diverted by the sawmill. There are ramsons either side.
The flower buds are just coming. In another couple of weeks the woods here will reek of garlic.
Towards the end of the walk we came to the main display of bluebells. Still not fully out so they will make an even better display in a week or so.
It was lovely to hear the spring birdsong too. I must try and learn a few more so I can identify them calling even if I can't see them.
