Hoagy II

Last night Dawn and I were at the Hunter club for a concert of Hoagy Carmichael's music.

It was meant to be the launch of a new CD and was the first of a series of chows around the country. But the CD isn't quite finished yet, so we'll have to wait a few more weeks for that to be available. I remember listening to the same combination of players at the Bury St Edmunds Festival one lunchtime a few years back and enjoyed it so much I bought the CD afterwards.

This was every bit as good. The concert included some of the songs from the first CD, but also some others. My favourite was the gentle Winter Moon. You can here Hoagy himself sing it here.

We had a table in the front row so were close to the action. Here are a few photos from my phone.

Chris started by introducing the rest of the band, poking fun at each of the as usual.

"What's the highlight of your year so far?", he asked George. "Being here with you" was the tongue-in-cheek reply.

"We do you have a green trumpet?", he asked Paul.

"What is the meaning of life", was his question for the Reverend.

Here they are in action.

With Chris on guitar singing a version of  Small Fry with close harmony phrases..

And here's George on the drums in Billy A Dick.

A great night's entertainment. I'll be looking out for the CD soon.
