Farne Island Boat Trip

Today we all went on a boat trip from Seahouses round the Farne Islands.

The birds who visit for the summer had gone, but we saw plenty of seals.

Here are a few of my photos.

I was up as dawn broke in Craster.

It was a lovely day and the sea was calm. Here are some views from the harbour wall at Seahouses.

Bamburgh Castle.

Inner Farne.

We bought our tickets and spent the time until our trip playing crazy golf.

Bethany's putting stroke is more like a hockey shot than a golf one.

Dawn ran out the winner but Bethany was second.

We gathered by the kiosk for our trip waiting to be called along the harbour.

While we were waiting we could see some dolphins a little way offshore.

We were told today would be the last day of sailing this week with the approach of Storm Babet tomorrow.

Our boat arrived from its previous trip.

Dawn, Bethany and I sat on the upper deck.

We passed Inner Farne...

...and The Pinnacles, eerily deserted in comparison with the height of summer now the summer vistors have left.

At Longstone lighthouse were were told the tale of Grace Darling.

We returned by Inner Farne and saw plenty of seals....

...including a mother and pup sheltering on higher ground.

The sky was looking ominous inland as we returned.

We saw the iconic silhouette of Dunstanburgh Castle in the distance.

St. Cuthbert used to live on Inner Fanr before he moved to Lindisfarne. There is a chapel and peel tower on the island.

Back on dry land...

...we visited the Olde Ship Inn for lunch.

The beer and food were good...

...and they have a wonderful collection of memorabilia.

A grand day out!

You can see more of my photos here on Flickr and compare with what we saw in July 2014 when the birds were about and we could set foot on Inner Farne here.
