A Near Miss

Just round the corner from us...

...in Jermyn Avenue.

On Monday night I was just falling asleep when there was the huge bang of a thunderbolt. Just the one with no other thunder and lightning. I checked the house and it was OK and wondered what it had hit. It must have been very close as there was no rumble of thunder.

Then yesterday I got a message from near neighbour Tim...

"Hi I assume your neighbours know they are missing tiles off the back of their house after the lightning strike?"

He sent the view from his back garden...

...and we met to have a look around as my next door neighbours are away at the moment.

I hadn't seen the news story or been round the corner so was surprised to see this...

Tim said he had been speaking to the owners. They lightning strike had done a lot of damage, not just to the roof, but the electrics and interior too. They managed to get their daughter out of her bedroom just in time before the ceiling collapsed. Repairs could take as long as 6 months.

It turned out what Tim could see from his garden was not our next door neighbour's but the rear of the house that had taken the direct hit.

Today, as you can see at the top of the post, scaffolding is in place and repairs underway,

Read the news story about it here.
