Thanks Sawbill and John. I competed this without the hints but had to biff a few then parse e.g. ANDROMEDA, POLAND and MUSKRAT where I was expecting a double R.
ReplyDeleteDiana Rigg was my heartthrob from The Avengers though younger solvers will identify her from Game of Thrones.
I felt the same way as a teenager.
DeleteSome quite complex clues - I was very slow to see how MUSKRAT worked, or associate Rigg with Diana (or for that matter TRIGGER for start), but all done in 12½ minutes. A good challenge! Many thanks Sawbill
ReplyDeleteCedric
Thanks, Cedric. I couldn't resist combining Diana and Queen when I saw it.
DeleteTHE AYES HAVE IT and TREASURED( certain in fifth place!) were hardest for me. I didn't know the greedy part of NOSHing and groaned when I finally saw SHRINK. TRIGGER and EARLY ON stood out for me. Thanks, SAWBILL( and John), really enjoyed the workout!
ReplyDeleteSorry, that was my anonymous reply below.
DeleteThanks as always. I was pleased with 'certain in fifth place'.
ReplyDeleteThoroughly enjoyed this high class cryptic. Boovers
ReplyDeleteThanks Boovers
DeleteGreat puzzle . DNF SHRINK, SMITES. Liked many inc NOD OFF, THE AYES HAVE IT.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Sawbill and John. Countrywoman.
Thanks very much. Beaten by shrink, DOH. Enjoyed. Chris and Francesca
ReplyDeleteThanks both. From the comments, SHRINK seems to have proved to be elusive.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Didn’t get shrink despite being medical.
ReplyDeleteAbove from Boovers but struggle to get beyond anon on this site.
ReplyDeleteI found this quite tough - and failed to get the SW axis of 15dn “Smites” (which I probably should have got) and 17ac “Muskrat” which I think I may never have obtained (not knowing the large rodent). Add in the fact I put “Decorated” for 2dn, and it was probably never meant to be.
ReplyDeleteThanks anyway!
JamesEd46
Bad luck. The "two rivers" wordplay is a little tricky I think, especially if you've never heard of the rodent.
