Last night it was the King Edwards School (can you spot William in one of the banner photos on the front page?) Spring concert - an evening of 80's music. The school hall was packed, with standing room only for some of the performers. We were treated to some great performances from no less than 14 different ensembles.
Highlights for me (with links to the originals) were:
- The Kickrollers - who turned out to be members of staff, singing Never Gonna Give You Up.
- Eddie's Voices singing Kids in America.
- The Little Band playing Any Way You Want It..
- The Synth Surgeons performing Cars - a slight cheat as it was released in 1979. But a great synth number!
- The Year9 band Outbound performing Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer - complete with all of Freddy Mercury's moves from the lead singer!
- Mr Heard getting the audience to whistle the theme song of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
- The Orchestra playing Toto's Africa.. Now famously playing continuously in a sound installation in the Namib Desert.
- The Soul Band playing Sade's Smooth Operator. One of my personal 80's favourites.
- And, but not least, the grande finale, with the wonderful girls close harmony group, The Kingettes, back by the Soul Band , with I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Update: See lots of bodacious photos from the concert here!
