Sheringham Park Walk

Now this was a proper day out; it's not the summer holidays, but it felt like it! This was the invite...

"Monday June 3rd will be a day out at Sheringham Park to see the Rhododendrons and have a 7 mile circular walk taking in Weybourne Train Station. We are proposing to meet up in Sheringham Park Car Park at 9.45am NR26 8TL. My car will leave my house in Mildenhall at 8am. A car will leave Skyliner Way Sports Centre in Bury at 8am and a car will be travelling from Ipswich at 8am too . Please contact me if you would like to car share with any of us. Please bring flasks/snacks/picnic if you wish although there are opportunities to buy food/drinks during the day. The park is free to everyone and it costs £6 to park a car if you aren't a NT member. I imagine we will be on our way home again between 3-4pm."

The car from Skyliner Way was mine and I had the delightful company of Anna and Miranda for the trip there and back. We were first to arrive at Sheringham Park... only because I had overtaken Joyce, who arrived just behind us.

We were in no hurry so started with a cup of coffee... which gave Peter a chance to catch up with us after nasty traffic problem we had managed to avoid.

This was our route.

It was largely this woodland and coastal walk, visiting Weybourne station and village.outside the confines of the park, but with an extra wiggle to see the Rhododendrons on the White walk towards the end.

Here is a selection of pictures from our walk.

Firstly, we had a coffee before we started. Well we had been traveling for over 1 1/2 hours to get here!

This is what we came for...

And it was  a lovely sunny day without being too hot.

We headed towards Weybourne station, which has been used for filming and on-screen TV appearances, most notably as Walmington-on-Sea railway station in the Dad’s Army episode “The Royal Train”, as Crimpton-on-Sea railway station in the BBC TV sitcom Hi-De-Hi! as well as the 1985 adaptation of The Moving Finger.

We just had to have a group photo on the platform.

We watched heritage trains arrive and leave.

There was an old kitchen garden with gooseberries and an Anderson shelter, being investigated here by Roland.

The station conveniences included some original Thomas Crapper facilities.

Now this is what a waiting room should look like.

We carried on to Weybourne village...

 ...and the coast.

Returning to Sheringham Park, we stopped for lunch just before tackling the gazebo...

...and were able to watch the trains go by.

Looking down from the gazebo.

Anna and Carolyn decided not to climb the stairs, which were a bit exposed and narrow. I decided there ought to be a one way route with a fireman's pole in the middle for coming back down.

Then it was onward through the park to the Temple.

.. and then some more flowers.

Another group photo , this time with me in it. Can you spot who was missing because they were taking the photo?

Some more lovely flowers...

...before we arrived back at the start...

..and finished with a cup of tea before driving home

.
Thanks Joyce for a lovely relaxing day out at the seaside.. and the chance to see such amazing flowers!
