Hartest Ramblers Walk

What with the Suffolk Walking Festival and other things to catch up on, this was the first Ramblers Tuesday walk I had managed to get to for some time. The weather forecast wasn't great but I wasn't going to miss getting out in the fresh air while I could. This is the walk as advertised...

We met at The Crown and had a pretty good turnout, considering the conditions, of about 24 walkers. This was our route...

It was a bit drizzly at the start and we got a couple more bouts of light rain but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm. Here are a few photos from our walk.

Lynne introducing the walk and explaining how she could be recognised as the leader without a hi-vis vest by her orange back-pack.

Visibility was a bit murky but we still had nice views.

We saw some peacocks at Giffords Hall.

Yes, there were some puddles, but were able to avoid wading through any.

We saw plenty of spiders webs decorated by water droplets.

We had a view of Glemsford Church at the farthest extent of our walk... a reminder of our walk last August  that shared some of our route.

Here are some of teh group enjoying the walk.

We headed towards Boxsted Church....

... and we circumnavigated Boxsted Hall, ancestral and current-day home of the Weller-Poleys.

It was only after we had left the church last year that I heard from Ron the story of the golden frog earring on a statue in the church. I visited it again with my family later in the year to find it. And here it is...

Returning to Hartest...

And here we are back where we started.

So many thanks to Lynne and Dave for a lovely walk. And we didn't get too wet, did we?

You can see more of my photos here on Flickr and more details of our route here on MapMyWalk.
