Hartest Circular Walk

After the Ramblers walk from Glemsford on Tuesday I found another nearby walk that also takes in Boxsted Church, from the AA. The write-up tells the story of the frog earring. You can see the route and read all about it here.

So I thought I'd take the family on it. Hartest is a pretty village to start from.

In the end, we decided to avoid some of the roadside walking and changed the last part to go along the river Glem. Here is our route...

The view from the top of Hartest Hill was well worth the climb. From here, the route takes in Gifford Farm Vineyard. Unfortunately the café is open only at weekends, but we were able to browse in the shop. The bridleway from there to Boxsted Hall entrance gave great views too and led past lots of blackberries and sloes. In Boxsted Church we found the golden frog earring and the kids enjoyed reading the gravestones on the church floor. And we found even more blackberries and sloes on the last park of our walk along the side of the river. We should have brought a bucket!

A very pleasant walk of about 5 1/2 miles, although Miss S was complaining about it being a bit long when we got to Boxsted Church. Fortunately the walk back from there was easy and there were no more hills.

I took quite a few photos along the way - you can see them here. You can also see more details of our route on MapMyWalk.
