Today we did a linear walk from Lavenham back to Bury St. Edmunds.
This is a walk we have done twice before but in the opposite direction, on 3rd May 2019 (see here) and 6th July 2108 (see here). This was the invite from Joyce.
"Wednesday May 3rd. Lavenham to Bury 14-15 miles. Please park in the Mayfield Road area near to Redwing Road (IP33 2PD should help). for 9.15am and we will walk down to the bus stop on Sicklesmere Road for the 9.35am bus to arrive in Lavenham at 9.56am. Obviously there are toilets in Lavenham before we start and maybe we should kick off with a coffee too? "
Alas I had managed to forget both my camera and phone in my rush to get out, but Joyce has stepped in to provide the photos and blog text.
This was our route.
Previously we have walked this route from Bury to Lavenham but to ring the changes, we caught the 9.35am bus from the Sicklemere Road, Bury and arrived in Lavenham just before 10am to walk back to Bury.
Our group today included Joyce, John, Roland and Glen. Glen was joining us as the first part of the walk was all new territory to him. We were treated to a sunny day but with a cool Easterly wind – hence the jackets stayed on for most of the walk.
I had forgotten how pleasant the route is. Lots of greenery and contrasting colours. This spring has been marvellous for Cowslips and blossom .
We identified these White Beam trees in Alpheton just before our morning coffee stop.
Lunch was at Stanningfield Village Hall under their charming pagoda....
...and the nearby church.
We also managed a drinks stop at The Rushbrooke Arms. For the majority of the walk, we had used the long distance trial called St Edmunds Way but at Nowton Church. we slightly diverted back to our cars.
A walk of about 14.5 miles and to be repeated very soon.
Thank-you Joyce for leading us and Roland and Glen too for the company. Thanks also for providing the blog content.
You can find a GPX file of our route here.
