Pavane II

Last night Dawn and I went to the Hunters Club for an evening of music fusing classical and jazz influences.

Led by the superb trumpeter Paul Higgs, the six-piece ensemble wasn't exactly as billed with a late replacement Ingrid Perrin on cello and club regular George Double on drums.

We had a seats at a table at the back, but here is are a couple of views of them in action.

For a French number, Paul swapped the trumpet for a melodica, and instrument I'd not seen before. It sounds like an accordion, but without the chords.

The concert was indeed melodic and atmospheric. The new CD isn't quite done yet, but we got a mix of numbers from the original and soon-to-be-released albums. The highlight for me was the virtuoso playing of Paul in a jazz arrangement of The Flight of the Bumblebee.

A great night out. Thank-you Paul and the band. I have the original CD and am awaiting delivery of the new one when it is released.
