A Fond Farewell 1

It was time to say goodbye to Dad... and we were going to make it an event to remember....

Sue, Kirsty and I had spent the day with him the Saturday before he died at the wonderful Southmead Hospital in Bristol.. He passed away as Sarah, William and were doing doing this beautiful walk, with Sue and Kirsty at this side.  There had been much discussion over how and where to do the funeral and we put it to the vote with his siblings Iris, George and Rosemary. The unanimous result was that we should hold the funeral in Glasgow rather than near Bristol, where his life ended or Co. Durham where he lived most of his life... taking him home to his roots.

It was lovely that Laura wanted to come - she came home on Friday night. Unfortunately, Sarah's University course was starting on the Monday so I thought it better not to let her miss her first couple of days. So Dawn, Laura, William and I set off for Glasgow on Sunday morning. It was about a 390 mile drive and the A66 was closed for roadworks... but that was fine as we were able to take a delightful detour via Kirkby Stephen, and stop at my favourite motorway service station at Shap - Tebay services. It is well off the motorway and has a lake and delightful views..

We got to our Travelodge in good time and headed for the Harvester where we were going to have a family pre-funeral get-together. Most of us had travelled some distance and were staying over and all the local relatives and friends joined us so there were 28 for the meal. It was right by the river Clyde... as you can see.

And here we are before before we went in.

Laura did a photo of each table and sister Sue followed her around to appear in each photo. But I took one first...

What a lovely evening catching up with the clan!

Here are couple of photos of Iris and George and Christine, also taken while in Glasgow.

Here's the view along the river to the squinty bridge after we had had our meal.

And so to bed.
