Ickworth Estate Walk

It was a lovely sunny, but cold and crisp winter morning. Perfect for a favourite winter walk - around the grounds of Ickworth House. Well we do have a family membership of the National Trust, so we should make use of it when we can. This was our route.

Here are some photos from along our way. We started with Geraldine's Walk, and were rewarded with the expected snowdrops, but there were plenty of flowering bulbs to come. We admired the wood carvings.

Then we took the Albana walk and liked the paintings.

We embarked on the Blue Walk but stopped to visit the church, which was open. Here we learned more about the wood carvings,

The big old trees looked fantastic in the sun against the blue sky and there was plenty of mistletoe.

The lake was frozen over. William enjoyed smashing some ice.

We got some pretty good views of the house  along the way.

And there was more ice at the Fairy Lake. "Why not use your slab like a frisbee?", suggested Dawn. The broken pieces skittered over the ice provoking a discussion about friction... ice on ice is pretty low in the friction stakes!

There were masses of snowdrops in the woods as we headed back....

...via the lodge at the entrance...

...a still frosty path....

..and some deer!

That was lovely morning walk. Home for some celebratory pizza!"

Here is a slideshow of my photos (Flash required).

You can see all of my photos Here on Flickr and details of our route in my MapMyWalk log of the walk.
