Long Melford Walk

It was William's birthday today and he wanted to go for a walk. we decided Long Melford just about classed as local (Hmm. I don't think we will be driving to a walk again any time soon) so did this walk there. We didn't have long as I still had the pizza to make for lunch, so we just did 3 and a bit miles. This was our route...

The first part of our route followed the Suffolk Threads walk I had done at sunset in November (see here), but then we went round the back of the houses along the river. Unfortunately we didn't have time for the second half past the church and up to Kentwell Hall.

It was a forsty day and still -2.5 degrees at home when we left in the freezing fog, but we emerged from the fog about half way there and it was a lovely sunny, if still a bit frosty, day in Long Melford.

Here are a few photos.

The Old Chool House has a mill stone outside...

I don't think I'd read the inscription before.

The company manufactured " galenicals, essential oils, food flowers and chlorophyl".

Our route took us along Bull Lane, which starts at The Bull.

We liked this outside light and flower pot.

At this house...

..we turned onto The Melford Walk, which follows the old Bury St. Edmunds to Sudbury railway line.

It was nice to see some frozen berries.

It was bright sunshine and blue skies all the way.

The river, a tributary to the Stour, was clear and flowing quickly.

Than it was back to the car, parked opposite Melford Hall...

...and home to the freezing fog.... and pizza!

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk.
