Lavenham Boxing Day Walk

The weather was pretty miserable, but the rain got lighter mid-morning so we decided to go for a short walk. Laurence hadn't been to Lavenham before, so we thought we'd do a short walk based on this Suffolk Threads brochure, which I'd done previously in November last year (see here)... but omitting the railway line bit as it was likely to be more muddy than somewhat.

That photo at the top is the "Harry Potter House" on Water Street. De Vere House is the fictional birthplace of  Harry Potter, featuring in featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One, as the house where the young wizard's parents were killed by Lord Voldemort.

Here are a few more of my pictures. It's funny how we found things we'd missed before even though we'd been to Lavenham many times.

Many of the shop windows had decorations like this.

Cancelled 😢

We loved this winter scene with its rotating hot-air balloon.

We visited the ancient buildings, of course.

But we hadn't noticed these shutters on the Guildhall which open up and down rather than side-to-side before.

More window decorations.

This house has bat doorknocker.

The alpaca wool shop has an explanatory picture.

We walked along the High Street only as far as these houses before turning back....

...taking a peek at the gardens of Lavenham Hall...

...before vositing the church...

...and browsing the second-hand books....

...while not forgetting to admire the stained glass windows.

Well that was a nice walk and I hardly needed my umbrella. Then it was home for a late lunch.
