Hadleigh and Kersey Walk

Today we joined Joyce on another risk assessment walk for one of her walks in the Suffolk Walking Festival. This one is  called "Is Kersey the most picturesque village in Suffolk?" and is on Thursday the 19th May.

This was the invite....

"You are invited to join the Risk Assessment walk for Kersey on Tuesday April 26th if you are free.  We will leave Corks Lane IP7 6DA Hadleigh for a 10am start. I am looking at making the walk 12 miles so it might be a bit different to the usual loop we do.

It was a variant of a perennial favourite and the walk title is a reflection of the  Discover Suffolk leaflet of Kersey Walks.  This is what it was like in March 2019.

Here is our route today.

Here are a few of my photos from today.

We had some pleasant sunshine as we set out along the River Brett and I soon took off my outer layer to walk in shorts and T-shirt.

We got an early view of our destination, but we weren't going straight there.

The oilseed rape here is taller than Sarah, but the path is generously wide.

We had our drinks stop at William's Green under the oak that was planted to commemorate the coronation of George VI.

We found some peacocks at Bridges Farm.

As well as sheep with their lambs...

...we passed a field with cows and their calves.

We had our lunch stop at The Bell Inn...

...before going through Kersey village.

The river level is quite low so we forded the ford...

...instead of using the bridge.

I'm not sure how I managed to miss this old road sign before.

We visited St. Mary's Church . They have a display about the book Magpie Murders, recently turned into a TV drama and filmed in the village. It didn't take us long to spot the magpies in the church.

We walked back through the village and on past the old priory, looping round towards, but not all the way to, Kersey Mill (last visited on this walk in February, which also came to Kersey). We liked this blossom by Noaks Tye Farm.

Back in Hadleigh we passed the church and  Deanery Tower.

We passed the new flats to recross the River Brett on the new bridge.

From there it was just a short walk back to our cars. Yes it's a great walk. Thank-you Joyce. I look forward to helping out on the walk on 19th May.
