Newbourne Walk

Today we had a River Deben walk, starting and finishing in the village of Newbourne, with those poppies just before the end.

This was the invite from Joyce...

"Tuesday 7th June. We will park and meet at Newbourne Village Hall, Mill Road IP12 4NP at 10.30am. We will walk to Hemley Church and straight over to The Maybush at Waldringfield for drinks (approx. 11.30am) . After another short stretch, we will stop for our packed lunch, at Waldringfield VH or Church field, and then back via  Newbourne Springs. It's a beautiful 8 mile walk with views of the River Deben at times."

This was our route, heading anti-clockwise.

Here are a few of my photos.

There are a number of springs around Newbourne - this was close to the start of our walk.

The crops are growing well.

We caught sight of some hares.

The poppies are out all over now.

We were soon at  All Saints Church., Hemley.

We reached the river at Waldringfield sailing club....

...and stopped at The Maybush for drinks....

...and admired the boats bobbing in the water.

We liked these garden flowers.

We walked a nice stretch along the Deben.

Returning to Waldringfield, we were amused by this sign in the Sailing Club car park.

Lunch was in the Church field at All Saints, Waldringfield church.

It has similar red brick to the neighbouring church at Hemley we visited earlier.
We wondered why some of the gravestones, like this one, have skulls and bones on them.

We headed north-west and eventually, over the potato fields, saw Martlesham Heath.

We returned through Newbourne Springs Nature Reserve...

...before looping round and returning to Newbourne via this field of poppies...

...and the greenhouses.

A lovely walk. Thank-you Joyce and our walking companions.
