Today William graduated as a BSc in Economics and Maths from the University of York.
We came up to York yesterday evening after Dawn's last day at school and stayed just over 1/2 mile from the Central Hall (see
here). After breakfast at
Sunny's, it was just a short walk to join the queue for the ceremony. Laura, Sarah, Nina and their friend James were all there too. There was a reception afterwards and then we did a bit of a wander for photos in different locations around the campus and then city centre, pausing for a bit to eat at Frida's café, which, alas, is due to close imminently... in fact we may have been their last customers. Here are a few photos.
Our path through the allotments.
We met Laura, Sarah, Nina and James by the queue to get into the Central Hall for the ceremony.
We passed the gathering of dignitaries. Seated by the window is the Chancellor reviewing her speech.
The hall was full and we got seats on the second row at the side of the stage.
Where's
Wally William? Can you spot him?
Sarah congratulating him.
We headed to the reception and got a drink to toast the new gradaute.
There were canapes but they were rather undistinguished,
William got some formal photos taken.
He had brought along some bird food to feed the ducks and geese.
His friends here had just got engaged to be married. How sweet.
Posing in the campus grounds.
In front of Heslington Hall.
We went inside to take a photo or two. The receptionists were quite amused.
We climbed the steps outside the Central Hall to the balcony while the next graduation ceremony was in progress.
Then we went to
Café Frida close to where William lived in his second year and Sarah this year.
This was the sad sign in the window.
Lovely food and drinks. We were the last to leave as it closed. Were we their last customers?
The rain came as we were there and we decided to take the bus into the city centre rather than walk.
Fortunately the rain stopped and we were able to continue with William's planned itinerary of photo opportunities. Here we were in the Yorkshire Museum gardens.
And here in the grounds of the Archaeology department - a favourite quiet place of study,.. with a cow statue.
In Exhibition Square.
While William returned to campus to hand his academic gown and hat back we had a wander through The Shambles. This shop was selling potions.
We bought some tea at Hebden's Tea shop.
Afterwards we headed to
Rice Style Thai restaurant for a celebratory meal.
Delicious!
Congratulations William! You can see more of my photos here on Flickr.
