Newbourne Walk

Today Dawn was on strike and after picket line duty she came home and suggested we all go for a walk. Well it was forecast to be a lovely day up to early afternoon so I suggested we take a trip to Newbourne for a morning walk followed by lunch at  The Fox Inn.

This was an almost exact repeat of this walk we did at the end of June last year.2022, but this time we had William with us. This was our route.

As before, we parked at Newbourne Village Hall. Here are a few photos of our walk.

The paths were dry, even through the low lying area fed by springs.

Some bright poppies by our path.

We stopped to visit All Saints Church, Hemley.

I photographed the leaflet explaining the history of the church (the second page is in my Flickr Album).

The path has lovely views over the River Deben.

We reached the river at Waldringfiled Sailing Club.

From here we walked along the river for a while, passing boats toed to the chain along the beach...

...the harbour, which was being dredged by the red boat....

..and The Maybush. We didn't go in as we were heading to its sister pub for our lunch.

Last year I said I didn't know what these structures are, so I decided to look it up and found they are part of a flood defence scheme. Read about it here.

We saw a heron at the same place we did last year.

Returning through Waldringfield we saw some great hollyhocks. They are good this year.

The paths are all good.

Soon we were back in Newbourne. Time for lunch before the rains come.... which they did on our way home.

Definitely a family favourite now! You can see more details of our 6 mile route here on MapMyWalk (or download a GPX file here) and more of my photos here on Flickr.
