Clitheroe Revisited

After William's Graduation on Friday, we left York on Saturday and drove to Clitheroe,

last visited in March last year for Florence's christening (see here), to visit Dawn's sister and brother-in-law Jilly and Ian, who moved there in December to be closer to the grandchildren. But the photo at the top of this post is from March last year.

After breakfast at Sunny's...

...it was already raining in York as Laura set off to take the rest home to Bury St. Edmunds and Dawn and I set off for Clitheroe. It was supposed to be just a 72 mile journey, but we got caught by an accident at the A64/A1 junction and then a mammoth queue around Skipton. It turned out this was due to the Yorkshire Food and Drink Festival. After sitting in the queue on the bypass for the best part of an hour, moving less than a mile, I used the entrance to the Golf Club to turn around and go back to the other side of Skipton to drive through it. In all it took us nearly 3 hours to get to Clitheroe.

It was still raining when we got there, and this was the forecast for the Sunday...

We did get out for a brief walk on Saturday afternoon around the town and to have a drink at the Dog & Partridge, but I didn't take my camera. I did take a couple of snaps on my phone of the celebrated sausage shop.

But the Sunday forecast was accurate and it was a complete washout. We did get to visit Emma and the kids and go shopping at Boundary Mill and had our Sunday Roast Dinners at the renowned Black Bull Inn at Old Langho.

Delicious! Thanks Rosie for booking it and thanks to Jilly and Ian for putting us up for the weekend.

As we left this morning to head for home, predictably, the weather was blue skies and sunshine!
