Bradfield Woods

Today we had our first trip to Bradfield Woods of the year to see some spring flowers.

Coincidentally, just yesterday, sister Kirsty sent a link to this article citing the Daily Telegraph's list of 20 best  places to visit for spring walks mention of the woods. We set out after breakfast and, arriving at 9:30, were surprised to find the car park completely empty! It was full by the time we finished our walk, though.

Here are a few photos. Sights of the day included the carpet of wood anemones, violas, oxlips, primroses, wild garlic leaves and a chiffchaff  singing.

The sign says "Wellies advised", but they weren't needed today - the paths were bone dry.

A fairy doorway.

The wild garlic flowerheads aren't up yet.

Where the bluebells normally are, the ground is covered with brushwood from the recent coppicing.

Meanwhile, back home, Dawn's spring flowers in the garden are looking good too...

We must go back to Bradfield Woods in a couple of week's time to see the wild garlic flowering and more bluebells.
