Today William came to visit early and we decide to go for a walk before lunch. Although it's a walk I've done a few times, including a couple of times before with Dawn, William hasn't so we did a walk from Barrow.
This was our route.
Here are a few photos.
At the start of the walk we saw some cute little ducklings on the pond.
Dawn loved these little flowers beside the path. We wondered what they were... well a bit of research afterwards showed the to be
Ground Ivy.
Lovely paths and, of course, after the lack of rain for the last few weeks, no mud.
Lovely blue skies too. The blossom looks lovely against the sky.
We passed the apple trees. Wrong time of year to find any to pick and their blossom isn't out yet.
We came to the remnants of Denham Castle. Here are Dawn and William reading about it and Withgar, the last Saxon Lord of Desning.
There isn't much remaining, but you can use your imagination.
We spotted a couple of lambs on the remains of the castle mound.
We passed the trig point at 103m above sea level.
There are great views from here. Those domes are at the distant
RAF Feltwell over the county border in Norfolk.
As we passed below Higham village (see phot at the top of the post), I photographed some of the houses in search of the
Mystery House....
...but none of the matched.
This building is an aircraft hangar. You can see the mown airstrip leading to it.
I remembered that we had to nip through the hedge here. The official footpath gap a few yards further on is a bit more tricky to navigate.
We passed Barrow Church, but didn't visit...
...where William bought me a birthday drink. (Yes it is my birthday today 😀).
