Glemsford Walk

Today we did a new walk from Willow Tree Farm in Glemsford.

This was the invite from Joyce.

"Thursday June 22nd. Glemsford - a new 9.5-10 mile walk starting from Willow Tree Farm Cafe, Glemsford CO10 7QU. We have permission to park here. Coffee at 10am and walk starts at 10.30am. Please bring lunch . Expect some great views of the Glem and Stour Valleys. "

We assembled from 10am at the café. It was already quite warm so I just had a cold drink. On all there were 12 of us today - another good turnout.

This was our route.

Peaceful and rural with great views, we barely grazed the edge of Glemsford village and went through only Cavendish towards the end of our walk.

Here are a few of my photos.

After crossing the road it was immediately uphill towards Glemsford village.

Yellow ripening barley and wildflowers were our prevalent habitat today.

But we did find quite a lot of oats too. Here we are crossing the filed by Elm Grove terraced houses.

The ground was very dry and cracked.

We had pretty fluffy white clouds overhead.

Lovely views, as promised. Downhill here to a tributary of the River Glem...

...before climbing again to Truckett's Hall.

We found some shade for a drinks stop.

We missed a turn into Easty Wood, so from being at the back, I became out front as we went through the wood and out the other side to Wales End.

We could see Cavendish nestling in the Stour Valley below,

We had plenty of ups and downs today.

We found a lovely place for a lunch stop by a pond at Colt's Hall.

It wasn't far from there to Cavendish, where we stopped at the green,

The school bell....

...and inscription set in the wall.

These four visited the tea rooms for an ice-cream. [Update: I'm told it is actually five, but Mike is hiding behind Shaun, so he's hard to spot].

We resisted the temptation to have a race today.

...unlike when we were here in 2019...

No they didn't race, they were only posing.

Lovely flowers in this cottage garden.

We were on the Stour Valley Path now and following some of the route from the last day of this year's Suffolk Walking Festival Wool Towns Challenge Walk (see here). This field was full of scarlet clover the last time we passed through it.

We saw some menacing clouds to the North, but they were heading away from us towards Bury St. Edmunds. I caught up with the rain from them on my way home later.

More nice views.

This is looing back towards Cavendish, where we can see the church tower peeping up through the trees.

Then it was downhill along the path we climbed at the start of our walk to our finish.

A lovely summery country walk. Thanks Joyce for leading us and thanks to all for the company.
