Newbourne Walk

We have Sarah and Ethan staying with us for a couple of days so today we took them on a favourite walk finishing with a pub lunch.

It is a circular walk from Newbourne to Hemley and Waldringfield including a stretch of the River Deben.

This was our route.

We parked at Newbourne Village Hall, as usual. Here are a few photos.

We passed through the low-lying area fed by the springs in the nearby nature reserve.

We were soon at Hemley, where we visited  All Saints Church.

As the brass plaque next to it explains, the reredos behind the altar came from a shell-shattered Belgian church in 1918.

We continued on the path parallel to the river Deben.

These cottages have a lovely view.

Looking downstream towards Felixstowe Ferry.

We passed Hemley Hall.

...and White Hall.

We reached the river at Waldringfield Sailing Club....

...and walked along the shore to...

...The Maybush, where we popped in for a drink (and to use the toilets).

Ethan had 2 cameras with him and he gave one to Sarah. Here they are reviewing her photos.

We continued north along the river.

We saw a few egrets like this one.

Just before we turned away from the river we could see Woodbridge church in the distance...

...but not the house or visitor centre at Sutton Hoo which are behind these trees, I think.

Turning a corner we got a big surprise. A field full of pumpkins!

Our return to Newbourne included crossing a potato field...

...and skirting the edge of the Newbourne Spring Nature Reserve.

Our destination was The Fox Inn, just along the road from where we parked.

The food and drink was yummy.

It was a lovely day out.
