Felixstowe Ferry to Newbourne Walk

This was the invite from Joyce...

"Thurs Aug 20th - a new walk for many. Join us for a 14 mile circular walk along the River Deben from Felixstowe Ferry to the village of Newbourne. We will stop for refreshments at the Nourish Cafe and then continue back via Falkenham and Kirton. We have 8 spaces free. One group will leave at 8.30am and the second group will leave at 8.45am. Pls park at Felixstowe Ferry outside the Ferry Inn IP11 9RZ."

In fact we just had 1 group again and we set off just after 8:30. It was a beautiful morning with a gentle cooling sea breeze. Perfect!

This was our route, starting at Felixstowe Ferry and heading upstream along the River Deben sea wall before turning inland to Hemley and Newbourne and back via Falkenham.

Here are a few of my photos.

Well here I am at the Ferryboat Inn at 8:30am. Where is everyone else?

There they are, coming along from Ann's house.

Fabulous views as we went along the river.

We saw some lovely birds. Several marsh harriers.

And a heron.

Lovely day for sailing on the river.

I think this is a snipe.

About to turn inland.

We passed All Saints, Hemley Church, but didn't stop.

But we did stop at Nourish Cafe in Newbourne, where we were joined by Teresa for a drink.

This self-service fruit and vegetable stall looked tempting but I didn't have the change to buy anything.

Potato harvesting!

We caught a glimpse of the river.

We stopped a Falkenham Church for another break, where I had my lunch sandwich.

As I enjoyed the view down to the river...

...Joyce got her revenge for all the photos I had taken of her where she was eating.

Returning via the sea wall, the tide was in now.

We stopped at the Jam Box

Wow! Lovely selection of jams.

Once we got back to the ferry, we found it was quite busy. It was nice to see all the children enjoying themselves.

What a great day and lovely walk. Thanks Joyce for leading us round and the others for the company.

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk and lots more of my photos here on Flickr.
