Dunwich Walk

It was going to be a hot day. "How about going to the coast?", asked Dawn. So I looked out a walk from the AA book 50 Walks in Suffolk that we had wanted to do for a while - Number 6 "The ghosts of Dunwich".

This was our route. Not quite as described as we started at Dunwich Heath and kept to the Sandlings Walk rather than going straight on after 3/4 miles, so ended up doing the rest of the walk in reverse.

Here are a few of my photos.

It is booking only for car park spaces and I forgot. No signal to try and book on the road, but they weren't fully booked, so they let us in!

The view towards Sizewell across Minsmere.

We were starting on part of the Sandlings Walk.

The heather is out!

The heath is very colourful at the moment.

We were also on the Suffolk Coastal path.

We saw some little songbirds. A goldcrest and a yellowhammer, perhaps?

We passed the ruins of Greyfriars Abbey.

The last gravestone is very close to the cliff edge now.

Lovely view along the coast from Dunwich beach towards Southwold.

The Ship Inn at Dunwich. But we didn't visit.

We saw lots of sea flowers including sea pea, sea campion, sea poppies and sea kale.

Looking across Dingle marsh to the Dingle stone house.

Sea kale.

A view of the Southwold lighthouse.

Returning via Mount Pleasant Farm....

...we came back the way we came and eventually saw the Coastguard cottages again.

About 8 /2 miles was enough in that heat, but it was cooler than being at home.

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk.and more of my photos here on Flickr.
