Hadleigh Walk


Today we had a new circular walk from Hadleigh. This was the invite from Joyce.

"Monday September 21st. A new walk starting from Hadleigh and taking in Kersey and some other Wool Town Paths. Please find your own parking in Hadleigh and we will meet at The Mix Coffee shop which is inside the Co-op, 72 High Street at 10am. If you wish to skip coffee then turn up at 10.20am. I will be there asap but sometimes traffic is awful on my route.  The circular walk is 9.5 miles. Pls bring packed lunch. Lifts available from Mildenhall and Bury. Toilets at Kersey Church on walk. I am sure there will be cows on the walk too."

This was our route today, going clockwise from Hadleigh.

We went to meet the others and have a drink at The Mix café, only to find it was closed for a Staff Meeting.



Sadly, it turns out that the business that owned it and 3 other cafés was going into liquidation (read about it here).

Instead we visited Huffers along the road.


Gary and Gill soon joined us and off we went. Here we are crossing the river Brett.



We were following the Wool Towns Walk path for the first part of our walk.


Up the hill and past Holbecks Park.


We spotted a helicopter which appeared to land nearby.


We turned off the Wool Towns Walk, which was continuing towards Boxsted, here.


Some new paths for me now - and very nice they were too.


We saw plenty of sloes today.


We passed some lovely cottages in Wicker Street Green.


They obviously didn't like poachers here!


We crossed a few beet fields today.


We stopped for our lunch by Groton Wood Cottage.



We were just around the corner from Groton Wood, but didn't go through it.


At Kersey Tye we were back on familiar paths with familiar sights.



We liked the stripy fields here. A south facing slope - would it make a good location for a vineyard?


We passed close to some pheasants...


...and ponies...


...as we walked along Kersey Brook into the village.




We had a drinks stop at  St. Mary's Church. You can read all about the church's history here



Oh dear. The roof has a leak.


They were all decked out for their harvest festival. This display was caught in a ray of sunshine coming through the windows.



Onward now back to Hadleigh, not forgetting to look back.

Then back over the River Brett.




A lovely walk. Thank-you Joyce for leading us round and to everyone else for the additional company.
