Hadleigh and Kersey Walk

"Monday is the popular Hadleigh to Kersey walk starting at 10.30am in Corks Lane (Hadleigh, free parking near playground. The old Barbergh DC offices were here). The circular route is 11-12 miles and it's fab! We will have a pub stop at The Bell in Kersey for drinks but pls bring your packed lunch too for a further stop. Weather looks great. Lift share from Dobbies Garden Centre in Bury at 9.45am", said the invite from Joyce.

Yes. This is indeed a delightful walk and we loved it when we did it previously at the beginning if March, as described here. But I had a medical appointment mid-afternoon so I wasn't going to go, as we wouldn't be finished in time until I thought of combining it with my shorter version done with the family a few weeks later as described here. So I resolved to do the first half of the walk with the rest of the group and then take the short route back. As it happens, my plan suited Steve, who also had something later in the day and preferred not to do the whole distance. So he joined me on our shorter route, as shown here...

It was a lovely warm sunny day for it, unlike last time which was a bit lacking in sunshine. Here are a few photos from our walk...

In the Car Park at the the start, was this Joyce giving us a briefing about the walk? No we were just having a chat.

We crossed and recrossed the River Brett a couple of times.

As before, we passed the church and the old Guildhall.

Walking up the side of Constitution Hill, we were soon out among the cereal fields.

When we last walked along this stretch of path it was under construction and not comfortable to walk on...

But now...

...a very nice path,

We passed some nice houses again...

...down to Kersey Vale.

Hang on. Wasn't that house yellow the last time we were here?  Yes it was!

We avoided the footbridge at the bottom as it was somewhat nettly!

This time we had our poster boy with us for the team photo on the seats a round the tree planted to commemorate the coronation of King George VI in 1937.

The primary school here is one of Joyce's clients. She stopped to say hello...

...while we visited the church. There is a nice view down The Street from the churchyard.

We visited the ancient cottages ...

...before crossing the bridge by the ford.

More home work for me. What are the wildflowers we could see from the bridge? Er... I'll come back to you on that.

We headed for The Bell Inn....

...for refreshments. It was getting quite warm and my lager shandy (thanks Jane) was most welcome.

We got a nice view of the church as we left the village.

Shortly afterwards we got to the parting of the ways. Steve and I headed back to Hadleigh while the rest adventured further afield. Bye. See you next week,

Joyce asked for photos to show what  our route back was like. The paths were excellent.

I couldn't resist this... The Suffolk Prairies!

I think I might have the shot for the background for the label of my latest beer... and a name for it.

We headed finally through some beans...

...before arriving back at the car park about 45 minutes after parting from the rest.

Meanwhile, look what the rest of them got up to.

Thanks Joyce for organising the walk and the merry crew for the entertaining company.
