Mallorca Primavera Walking Event - Day 2

And so to day 2.

The walk was described  like this...
PEGUERA – ES CAPDELLÀ – CALVIÀ – TORRENT DE SANTA PONÇA – PLAYA DE SANTA PONÇA – COSTA DE LA CALMA – PEGUERA

The trek begins in Paguera and heads towards Es Capdella up until the center of Calvia. From that moment on it continues through the Torrent de Santa Ponca passing by Galatzo, Playa de Santa Ponca and Costa de la Calma to reach its conclusion in Paguera, the starting point.

A route that combines the best elements of the cultural heritage of the municipality of Calvia: the coast, the central valley, the beach and the mountainous area. It invites one to discover the true essence of the place in depth, crossing both the municipality’s rural areas and its more urbanized and dynamic cities.

This was our actual route, which again differed from what we had been told in advance. It was mostly pretty well marked, although some of the 30km walkers were misled into following the road back to Paguera instead of doing the final climb around the Costa de la Calma.

Here is a selection of my photos.

You can see the route displayed doesn't match my map!

Today the 20km and 30km walks diverged right at the start. We 30km walkers did an extra 2.5 mile loop  along the front and up the steps to Cala Fornells before getting back to the start and joining the 20km route.

Up the steps we go.

We were rewarded with some fine views.

Now we are on our way to Es Capdella.

We had a lovely path beside the road for most of the way.

Eventually, the road left us to hairpin up the hill and we had a bit of a climb. More on that route when we repeat it on Day 4!

Look at the orange trees as we enter the village.

This was our first rest point and we had oranges to go with the water today. Very tasty they were too!

Now we were really out in the country as we headed on towards Calvia.

Here we were greeted by our band, De Amerblaozers!

I paused to see the sights.

... before heading on through some lovely rural scenes

Then we reached the path through the woods alongside the Torrent de Santa Ponca. We crossed the stream a few times via stepping stones.

By now I was wishing I hadn't worn such a thin pair of socks. The path was very stony and a lot of people, like me, found it a bit hard going.

We arrived at the second rest point at the windmill we passed yesterday.

Here, feeling rather footsore, I very nearly gave in to the temptation to take the 20km route back, but I was glad I persevered.

Here we were back at the Platja de Santa Ponça we passed yesterday...

...but this time we turned left instead of right to head for Costa de La Calma.

I passed these ladies sat outside a pharmacy. Was someone looking for some help for ailing feet, I wondered?

Again I was rewarded with some lovely views.

And. Yey! I made it to the finish again. 2 days down. 2 to go.

As before the beer tokens came in handy and our band were back from Calvia to entertain us.

Tonight we ate at the Red Rubber Duck, which Sue and Ian had found on the first night. They stayed open later than usual just for us. The freshly made fajitas were delicious!

The wind was getting up now and the sea wasn't as flat as it had been.

The inflatables at the walking village had to be taken down.

Then Chelle, Helen, Nicky and I went to the party at the Hotel Beverly Playa. The band were playing again, of course, but there was also a disco. I was made to get up and dance!

We had a front-row table.

We had a great night out!

Here is a slide show of my photos (Flash required).

Tomorrow, the linear walk!
