Suffolk Youth Music Easter Concert

Sadly, Sarah missed out on this as her summer term at York University started the week before Easter, but William was able to attend the Easter residential course for the Suffolk Youth Orchestra (hello poster boy William) at Framlingham College and then take part in the Easter Concert at The Maltings, Snape.

It was a working day for me, but I was able to get away from work early, in time to have a bowl of soup at home before heading to the concert.

In the first half we were treated to music from the Suffolk Chamber Winds and Suffolk Young Strings before the Suffolk Youth Orchestra in the second half. Here they are taking a bow at the end of the concert.

You may have to click and blow up the photo to spot William among the cello section. The standard was as good as ever and we entertained by renditions of:

Verdi - Overture to the Opera Nabucco
Music from the West Suffolk College and RPO Film Music Project
Borodin - Polovtsian Dances from the Opera Prince Igor and
Gershwin - An American in Paris

(links are currently to other performers, but will be updated when the videos of tonight's performance are released).

I was particularly impressed by the Verdi, which was as good as I'd heard, but the rest was pretty good as well. Hats off to the soloists, particularly the wind players in the Borodin and the trumpeter in the Gershwin!

In the summer Sarah will be able to join them for their course and tour to Northern Italy, before returing to Smapoe for their Prom concert.

Once we get details of the itinerary, maybe we can arrange a trip to follow them!
