Today Sarah graduated as a BSc in Mathematics (with placement year) from the University of York.
We travelled up to York yesterday and are staying at the Travelodge in Hull Rd, which is quite convenient for the University Campus and not far from both where Sarah is living and where Laura was staying for a couple of nights.
Here are a few of my photos.
I collected Sarah at 7:45 am and took her to the campus.
We would be in the hall later today - she was in the 3rd and final session at 4:15pm
We were in good time to beat the rush for collecting gowns. Sarah hadn't pre-booked, but she was first in the queue to get her details captured and fitted out with a gown.
On the way back to the hotel we collected Laura from where she was staying and then the 4 of us went out for breakfast...
...to
Grub, just a short distance along the road.
Sarah and Laura had Greek Gyros in pitta breads while Dawn and I had the traditional breakfast.
We returned to the hotel to wait for William to arrive by bus. Meanwhile the rain had turned to snow.
We then all walked to the campus, just a 20 minute walk.
Here Sarah got her official photos taken. We will get to choose one to get copies of next week.
Then it was time of family photos at places Sarah had chosen. Firstly at the top and below, in front of
Helsington Hall.
Then the topiary garden in front of the
Quiet Place. The snow was still coming down. Not your typical graduation photos!
Then, as we had done with William, we took a bus into the city centre.
we were getting a bit cold now so took the bus back to the campus and had a bit of a sit in the warm before the graduation ceremony.
Dawn and I had seats at the side of the hall, while Laura and William watched on the big screen.
We found her on the programme...
But where was she in the hall? Ah there she is! She would be one of the last to cross the stage.
We stood for the procession of academics towards the stage.
Part way through the ceremony we were treated to an a capella rendering of "Somewhere over the rainbow" by the student group I Anonimi..
Eventually it was Sarah's turn. Here she is being announced....
...and then walking across the stage.
Then we all went to the reception in the exhibition hall. Here we got a drink of prosecco or orange each...
...and were entertained by a student Jazz band.
Dawn having a bit of a sit down.
Once the crowds and queue had died down we took our turn at the flower wall before Sarah returned her gown, cap and hood.
Afterwards, as we had done on William's graduation day (see
here) we headed to
Rice Style Thai restaurant for a celebratory meal.
Congratulations Sarah! And thank-you Laura and William for making the trip to be there.

Congrats…. N&J
