Whitlingham Park Walk

We arranged to meet Laura and Lawrence for  a picnic and walk again, this time at Whitlingham Country Park, just outside Norwich so only a 10 minute drive for them. We met for coffee first and then did a liesurely circuit of the great broad. This was our route.

I had done part of it on our Norwich Nomads Walk in January, but it was good to do the full circuit.

Here are a few photos.

We started at the Flint Barn. The cafe was open, but only for takeaways. Not that we minded - we had brought our own.

Ther was quite a congregation of waterfowl at the edge of the broad.

The path was well-surfaced. I think Laura spotted she was on camera.

We got a view of the Thorpe Tower folly in the grounds of the derelict Pinebanks....

...and Thorpe St. Andrew church

This is the view down the length of the broad from the eastern end.

Coming round the other side, we passed along the banks of the River Yare.

We took a detour into the conservation area to the bird hide. Well it was certainly well hidden - we couldn't see out of it for the vegetation!

Whitlingham Adventure is closed. No water sports for us today.

We liked these bullrushes.

There were plenty of butterflies about. This splendid peacock posed for a photo.

All too soon we were back where we started.

We liked this egyptian goose.

And then we had our picnic... and Lay=ura was presented with one of our home-grown courgettes to take home.

Well that was a very pleasant morning and lunchtime.

You can see more details of our walk here on MapMyWalk.
