Chew Magna and Blagdon Walks

Today we had a day out with Sue from Oakhill northwards towards Bristol. First we drove past Chew Valley Lake to have a little wander around the village of Chew Magna and visit the church there. The we drove to Blagdon for a circular walk down to the lake and across the dam, before grabbing a pub lunch at the New Inn.

This was our walking route from Blagdon, based on this leaflet.

Here are a few photos, firstly from Chew Magna...

We passed the Chew Valley Gin distillery. Looking through the window I could see a still just like mine. Not a gin to be found among sister Sue's extensive collection... yet.

We enjoyed visiting St. Andrews church, which dates from 1191.

We liked the back streets and riverside walk...

...and pretty green dragonflies.

Then it was on to Blagdon and our walk...

We parked by the play park.. and toilets.

We headed downhill and onto Dark Lane, which lives up to its name.

The lake is man-made.

What are Sue and Dawn looking at?

Some damselflies.

After crossing the dam, the clouds were gathering behind us.

We spotted a heron at the northern end of the lake before turning back.

Light rain? What light rain? It was coming down quite heavily now.

We reached the New Inn just before 2pm... and just in time for lunch.

There is a lovely view of the lake from outside the pub.

As we headed back towards Oakhill, the rain started again.... and kept going. Here is the view from Sue's upper living room.

So we had the best of the weather going out in the morning. A lovely day out.

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk and more of my photos here on Flickr.
