Today we had a trip to Norwich to Meet the T.Rex. They were scattered through the city, so we got a walk around the city too, just as we had with the GoGo Hares in 2018.This was the invite...
"Thursday August 19th T.riffic T-Rex art trail in Norwich. Meet outside The Forum at 10.00 am for coffee followed by a short walk (4 miles) around the city centre, along the River Wensum Parkway and Cathedral Close. Options to view Dippy, the Natural History Museum’s iconic Diplodocus cast, at Norwich cathedral, and also Ketts Heights, giving a hilltop view of the city."
We were ably led around the Art trail by Robert who also took us up Kett's Heights to see the view and gave us a couple of diversions into the Cathedral Herb garden and St. Julian's Church. We didn't see Dippy, though, as the exhibition was closed until 1pm.
This was our route, although you can devise your own from the trail leaflet - see here.
Dawn and I parked at the Thickthorn Park&Ride and took the bus into Norwich. We all met at the Forum and started the day with a coffee before going on our hunt. Here are my photos of each of the T.Rex (one of each we saw).... and a couple of others from the day.
No 1. Prideasaurus
No. 2 B-Rex
No. 3 T.Pot
No. 5 T-wrecks - one of my favourites.
No. 4 Afternoon Tea-Rex. This one is pretty good too. I loved the cherry on top.
No. 8 Hulkosaurus
No. 12 Dino Hunter
No. 13 Lava Land
No. 16 Do you think they saurus? My favourite title.
No. 17 Eyela the T.spex
No. 18 Automotosaurus
No 21 Tyra-Norvy-Saurus
No. 20 Lost Holmes
No. 19 Where's Rexy?
No. 6 Hawker
No. 7 Doctasaurus
No 9 60 Million Years
No. 10 Tigrasaurus
No. 11 Snap!
That was the last one we all visited. So here it was good-bye to all and thanks to Robert!
But then I spotted these was one nearby that we had missed - in Jarrold's department store, so Dawn and I went to find him...
No.14 Rex
Lovely. And they will be back in 2022 with more for company.
Well that was the Art trial. But here are a few more photos of the day...
I'd never seen a busker with an electric violin before.
We met some chaps who had hired some Beryl e-scooters for the day. They looked fun.
Near the Cow tower....
...we found this...
...and this interesting seat. Here is Dawn trying it out.
It is inscribed "Excuse me while I kiss the sky", a quote from Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix at one end and "Pull the catch as one" at the other end. A quote from Fat Freddy's Drop Pull the Catch, perhaps?
We saw some people paddle-boarding on the river and found where they had come from later - Norfolk Paddle Boards at the Bishopgate Red Lion.
Joyce tried to persuade Dawn she would like to do it as a birthday treat next month, but I don't think Dawn was convinced.
We got some great views from Kett's Heights.
We loved the registration plate of this car parked near the cathedral....
...and enjoyed looking round the cathedral herb garden.
There were some steeplejacks working on the cathedral.
None of us had visited St. Julian's church before. Very interesting.
A selfie reflected in this listed Bernard Meadows sculpture at Prospect House.
A short sit-down.
We liked the stained glass in the Twinning garden at All Saints Westlegate church...
...and one last mural on our way back to the bus station.
That was a great day out. Thank-you again to Robert for leading us round.
You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk and plenty more photos, including the descriptions of (nearly) all of them here on Flickr.
P.S. I also spotted when compiling this blog post that, according to the trail map, there should have been one more T.Rex - No. 15 The Junkosaurus Rex, off to the North-west of the city centre, but it isn't listed among the others on the site. Maybe it escaped? Never mind. We'll have to see if we can find him next year.
