Starling Murmuration

Last December (see here) we visited Lackford Lakes to try and see the starling murmuration, but the flock had moved on.

Today we tried again and, this time, Joyce checked on them bedding down for the night the day beforehand. Six of us met just after 7am. As we headed into the nature reserve we could hear the murmuring. We arrived at the reed beds just in time to see the rise, swoop about, settled down again and then rise once more.

Here are a couple of my photos and a couple of videos - one of mine and two forwarded by Joyce.

It was quite a spectacle! Thank-you Joyce for coordinating our visit. If it's a nice morning at the weekend I'll try and take Dawn to see.
