Today we revisited a favourite walk we hadn't done for a while from Thorp Morieux.
This was the invite from Joyce.
"Thursday May 22nd we have permission to park at Thorpe Morieux Village Hall IP30 0NR. Let’s meet there at 10am. The circular walk is 10 miles and visits Brettenham, Kettlebaston and Preston St Mary. The 6 Bells pub will be open for drinks 12 till 2.30 so we will visit. Please bring packed lunch as usual. The usual summer icks will apply (long grass, field crossing, nettles etc). "
This was our route today, going clockwise on the map.
Here are some of my photos.
Dawn and I arrived early. It is only 12 miles from home and there was no traffic at all to speak of. We admired the patriotism on display at the village hall.
This fire pit is rather clever.
A recent bench commemorating King Charles' coronation.
The others arrived. A select band of 5 of us today. And off we go.
I liked the map in the village telephone box.
We liked the doggy footprints here....
...and the old school desk.
Onwards through some verdant fields.
We passed the entrance to Old Buckenham School.
The village of Brettenham has 29 grade 1 and 2 listed buildings. This will be one of them.
Crossing the river Brett. This bridge has only one rail.
We came across plenty of footbridges today!
We came to the centre of Brettenham...
...and the village hall, our drinks stop.
This bridge has been bypassed now.
We had some big fields to traverse.
Some lovely-looking horses.
The rape flowers have turned to seed here.
Our next village was Preston St. Mary. The eponymous church
St. Mary, Preston is rather grand.
The coat of arms is rather splendid...
...and the ten commandments rather well done.
We passed the village sign...
and stopped off at
The Six Bells, established in.1416, as it says on the wall.
We were made most welcome by the landlady, but she claimed not to be very familiar with the coffee machine. Lol.
Onwards through the village.
We caught a glimpse of Lavenham Church.
The we came to grounds of the impressive
Down Hall, with it's menagerie of statues in the garden across the River Brett from the house,
Returning now to Thorpe Morieux we stopped to smell the roses here.
We liked this garden too.
Past the weighbridge - not far to go now...
...but we had a nice leafy lane to go through...
.... before we arrived back at the village hall.
