N is for Norwich GoGo Safari

Today we had a day out on safari... in Norwich! It was also N in our alphabet of walks.

This was the invite from Joyce.

"Thursday July 3rd N is for Norwich. This will be a relaxing day in Norwich searching for the Safari Sculptures – see more here GoGoSafari. Trains from Bury/Diss/Ipswich seem to arrive at 10.19am so let’s meet outside Norwich railway station at 10.20am. We will make our way over to the cafĂ© at Norwich cathedral for our morning stop. I think the route will be about 6-7 miles. There should be time for a good lunch break too so bring a packed lunch or head to the market/delis. Back to train station for 3pm return travel.

We met at the station as planned and Joyce led the 9 of us around most of sculptures. This was our route around them.

Here are some of my photos, including one of each the big animals we saw.

At the station, the start of our safari.

Onward now towards the cathedral.

I liked the hidden sparrows.

#52 Mini-collection

#1 Bling. Very blingy.

This impressive elephant was behind the reception desk at Safari Central, but is not one of the collection of moulded statues.

#3 All the Fun of the Fair was another favourite. We recognised scenes from Thursfor Steam Museum which we visited last year (see here).

#4 Wild Harmony.

#5 Gold Leaf.

#8 Silverback.

#7 Clockwork Rhino

#6 Mane Attraction.

#9 No Charge.

#17 Head in the Clouds.

#44 Sprinkles.

We had our lunch stop here, alongside #45 Swifts.

I liked the depiction of their annual migration on the two sides of the elephant.

We reconvened here to carry on. Her Dawn is showing her sticker book to others.

The "giant leap for mankind".

#42 Gina la Giraffa Lampada

#33 Rory

#41 Bobo has gone missing - being repaired, says the notice on the empty plinth. #32 was also missing.

#19 I Spy Norwich.

#18 Neville the Navigator.

#20 Bishy Barna-Beast, a local dialect name for...

... a ladybird. This one was just by the plinth.

#16 Karakdann. We liked this one too....

...especially as it's dishwasher-safe!

#11 You are Stronger than you Think.

#10 Sir Rhinor Ironside.

#12 Flower Power.

As we were passing it we we popped into St. Julian's Church.

I liked this bowl on display.

Laura and Laurence used to live in nearby St. Julian's Abbey...

...and the National Centre of Writing here.

Crossing the river for the last time.

#14 Ankara.

The others left us here for their 3pm trains etc. But we had an extra hour....

...so we took a trip along the river to find...

#13 Alfred.

before returning to the Queen of the Iceni for a welcome drink.
