Anglesey Abbey Walk

This was the invite from Joyce...

"Next Wednesday, Sept 2nd I'm going to Anglesey Abbey, Lode, Cambs to visit the gardens and dahlias. If you fancy joining me and my Aunt then you will need to book yourself a ticket (free to National Trust Members) online this Friday for a 10.30am slot. I'll be leading a shortish walk (5-6 miles) after we've looked around the gardens and had a coffee so feel free to meet us in the car park about midday. See the Anglesey Abbey Website. to book."

Not as far as last year's, this was our route today...

It was just Joyce, Geraldine, and Jane - Joyce's initial walking group, and me this year. Here are a few of my photos.

We passed Lode Mill and walked along the other side of Quy Water from Anglesey Abbey gardens.

At times the path is barely above the level of the lode and the fields either side are even lower.

OK. We get the message. Keep out!

We got a view across the field of St. Mary's Quy Church, which we would visit later.

We stopped for lunch at the flower bed  at the entrance to Quy Mill.

We couldn't just pass the tunnel under the A14 without going through it and back.

We came to the church...

...and found it was open on Wednesdays.

This framed document commemorates the life of Rev. Richard Minter who was parish priest at this church from 1946 until his death in 1997 at the age of 91.

On our way back we got a good view of the impressive Quy Hall.

Along the Quy Water again for a bit...

...but then a different route back to Lode Mill.

As last year, we took a little detour on our way back to the car park to visit the allotments....

..and for those tall enough to see where the dahlias are grown over the hedge.

I had to raise my camera over my head for that shot!

Thanks Joyce for the walk and it was nice to see Geraldine and Jane again.

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk and more of my pictures here on Flickr.
