CAMRA West Suffolk Branch AGM... and Beer Tasting

I attended the Annual General Meeting of our local branch of CAMRA in our living room last night, using Zoom on the big-screen TV.

I would probably not have have attended the AGM call without it.... the committee arranged for a beer tasting after the end of the formal proceedings, which started at 7:30pm and took about 40 minutes. I was pleased to hear that there are plans to have a Bury St. Edmunds Beer Festival this year in August or September. There was a total of about 30 on the call - the best turn out they've had for an AGM

Then it was down to the tasting of beers from Roughacre Brewery who have recently moved to Clare. £12.75 (which is very reasonable) got me a box of 6 bottles delivered to the door last weekend for tasting after the AGM. Beautifully packaged too, with notes on all their beers.

Dawn and William joined in too and we shared each beer out in 3 glasses. We were led through the beers by Sarah and Mark...

We were invited to rate each beer out of 5 on each of Aroma, Appearance, Taste, Aftertaste and Overall. My favourite was the Abbey Gold Belgian style Pale Ale, but the All Saints Old English Ale was pretty good too and won the contest of 4 beers. We also tried the Nighthawker Coffee Porter and Camps Comfort Winter Warmer, but not everyone had both of these. You can read all about them here. There was plenty of entertaining conversation too and we didn't finish until well after 10pm. Would anyone like another virtual beer tasting? The verdict was unanimous. It was almost like meeting down the pub. Great fun!
